Synopsis
6 OCT "Debating Amalia Rodrigues can be a continuum of commonpalces. It can also be an attempt to better understand a complex artist, without the guest intending to become the stars or making any sort of personality statements. This is the path we aim to follow." Guests Lili, João Braga, Maria João Avillez, José Manuel dos Santos, Mané Bobone and Vítor Pavão dos Santos.
“Ten years after her passing away, Amalia Rodrigues´s presence in portuguese culture remains unaltered, as if she was still among us. Her inheritance, more than a historical heritage frozen in the past, is a live legacy that continues to inspire even the generation that did not see her perform live: the physical legacy of her intimate space, the register of her voice, the corpus of documentation that refers to it. But it is mainly the example of her way of being as an artist that remains alive and continues to motivate interpreters, poets and composers of all kinds, as well as artists from all areas. We shall talk about all this: about everything that Amalia has left us and all the ways in which her memory still touches our lives." Guests Jean-François Chougnet (Berardo Museum Director), Sara Pereira (Fado Museum Director), Américo Lourenço (President of Amalia Foundation), Vítor Pavão dos Santos (Theatre Historian, former Director of Theatre Museum), José Carlos Alvarez (Director of Theatre Museum), Manuel Bairrão Oleiro (Director of Museums and Conservation Institute), David Ferreira (Music editor, former Director of EMI Music – Portugal) 9 AND 10 OCT Amalia Rodrigues´s house was a stage where every night spontaneity was directing one of the most intimate, but greatest performances of her life. In this show we aim to recreate those nights. ´We will have with us interpeters with whom she shared some of the greatest moments of her life and musicians with whom she traveled all around the world, on the stages that bear testimony to her performances. We will also have with us three musicians and an interpreter of today´s generation, representing the inheritance the 'Diva' left us. But, as it was a house always open to those well intended, all those who wish to share the moment will be welcome: poets, composers, museicians, fado singers and all those who still remember those nights, as well as those who would like to have a small idea about the moments we shared in the past at Amalia´s house.
