TEATRO DA CORNUCÓPIA
MAIN AUDITORIUM
Wed to Sat, 9pm; Sun, 4pm

Synopsis

"They say that Western Civilization was born in ancient Greece and Democracy in Athens, many centuries Before Christ. This play is based on Aristophanes´s comedies, on the violent and insurgent humour with which he portrays life in the 'perfect' city of Athens, on those texts written 2500 years ago. It aims to entertain through the confusions and difficulties of life in a society considered democratic, the political corruption, its desire for peace, the nostalgia of life in the coutryside, the way in which it coexists with its 'poets', the sexual and conjugal adventures in the coexistence of the public with the private, in other words, with the life of the 'polis', and through the inevitable similarities with life nowadays. A grotesque metaphore of all Cities, built by a big group of actors on the stage of São Luiz, theatre of the city of Lisbon."
