“Hamlet or a Beethoven quartet is the truth about this vast mass that we call the world. But there is no Shakespeare, there is no Beethoven; certainly and emphatically there is no God; we are the words; we are the music; we are the thing itself.”wrote Virginia Woolf in her diary on April 16th 1939. In June 2020, almost a year before debuting It Was Dark Inside the Woolf – Primeira Memória, her third visit to the world of the British writer, Sara Carinhas writes: “I say goodbye to a cycle dedicated to Virginia Woolf and begin what I envision as a trilogy about memory. No, not about memory but about the fear of forgetting. The fear of the non-inscription of things. In this first part, or first memory, I am accompanied by Woolf’s non-fictional texts and her reflections on the act and space of writing and reading. Some of her words there help me speak now.”
