Description

Taking its title from the eternally serene music of Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks (b. 1949), the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra embarks on a journey through the centuries: from the biting humour of Capriccio Stravagante by Carlo Farina (1600–1639); to the genius of Claude Vivier (1948–1983) and his fascination with the ritualistic traditions of India and Japan; the hymns celebrating interfaith dialogue in John Cage’s 44 Harmonies (1912–1992); and the radically experimental music of Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber (1644–1704). An ode in concert form, a sonic meditation on conflict, hope, harmony, and redemption.
