The creation of the piece O Susto é Um Mundo (2021) left behind various unexplored materials. In 2023, Vera Mantero began creating “micro-pieces” from these undeveloped materials, collaborating with artists from the original project. The first one, Um Pequeno Exercício de Composição, featured Teresa Silva and Santiago Tricot, and was centred on a duplicated metal ring. In __chãocéu|, with Henrique Furtado and João Bento, three stepladders take centre stage. Here, the performers rise up, defying gravity and the audience’s gaze, as if trying to hold up a falling sky. Mythical creatures inhabit this universe, blending body and object, sound and movement. The search for the invisible and the unconscious persists. Perhaps it is no longer us who touch the ground, but the sky that claims it.
