Aquela Canção Sobre o Fim (That Song About the End) tells the disastrous story of a reunion of high school friends who gradually realise that they can no longer maintain a harmonious relationship. Or might it be about something more than just a simple dinner?
A sharp comedy, a contemporary tragedy based on Greek mythology, as well as a reflection on ‘cancel culture’ and a critique of the hypocrisy of contemporary relationships based on ‘likes’ and ‘dislikes.’
It all begins with a story like so many others, we could even call it an ‘old narrative formula’: years after going their separate ways, a group of friends gather for dinner at Ana’s house, the hostess who has always been the link between them.
The reunion brings up nostalgic memories and reconciliations, but also reveals unresolved tensions and hidden secrets that hang in the air like a dense and heavy atmosphere. As the night progresses, superficial conversations begin to intertwine with subtle provocations and misunderstandings, bringing up wounds that have not healed.
What should be a moment of celebration becomes an unstable dance between old ties and new rivalries, and as the tension grows, the friends are confronted with truths about themselves and their relationships.
In Aquela Canção Sobre o Fim, the audience is invited to reflect on the bonds that unite us and what can divide us, showing that the past is never completely behind us, and how everything can change at any moment – and in this show, nothing is what it seems and there will be many twists and turns.
Smoke and strobe light effects are used in this show.
