Juan Mayorga’s Caminho do Céu (Path to Heaven) is based on a macabre historical event: the creation of a sham Jewish town during the Holocaust, staged by the Nazis and performed by prisoners at the Terezín concentration camp. In the play, ahead of an inspection of the camp by a Red Cross delegate, a Nazi commander orchestrates the deception with the help of a Jewish prisoner, forcing him to play the role of mayor of a town that does not exist.

This production invites us to reflect on individual responsibility in shaping the present and the inevitable cyclical nature of history. In what will be Rita Cabaço’s directorial debut, Terezín will be brought to life by people with no previous theatre experience, from diverse backgrounds and age groups.

We are looking for people living in Greater Lisbon, of all ages (aged 6 and over) and backgrounds, with no professional acting experience, to join the cast of the play Caminho do Céu. Based on the play by the Spanish playwright Juan Mayorga, this production marks Rita Cabaço’s debut as artistic director and stage director, in a co-production with São Luiz Municipal Theatre, Cineteatro Louletano and Teatro Viriato.
