Coisas de Teatro (Theatre Matters) is a collection of books about themes associated with the theatrical universe, edited by André Murraças, a renowned director, set designer and playwright. Two editions are planned for this year: the first dedicated to theatrical superstitions and the second mapping out the ghosts inhabiting Portuguese theatres.
It is a compilation accompanied by texts and illustrations, the result of extensive research, gathering real facts and those from the imaginary scene.
It is well known how superstitious artists can be. But what rituals do they perform before stepping onto the stage? Is it true that one shouldn’t whistle on stage or clap before a premiere? And do ghosts really exist in theatres? Of course they do! Just ask the technicians, and they will quickly reply with tales of strange sounds, doors closing on their own, and shadowy sights.
