Contrafogos is a programme commissioned by Filho Único for the creation and installation of Ambisonics musical works. In its second edition, we reiterate that Ambisonics is a full-sphere surround sound format that enables the representation of a 360° three-dimensional sound field, widely used in the digital creative industries and in virtual and/or extended reality. In Contrafogos, this technology serves as the chosen method for exploring new forms of sound experience and spatialisation linked to acoustics, physics, timbre and orchestration, distinct from the conventional stereophonic model. Functioning simultaneously as a tool, a medium and a form of dramaturgy, it determines the way in which each work is experienced relationally by the audience.

The range of guest musicians and composers will be characterised by the inclusion of prominent Portuguese or resident artists working in the interdisciplinary fields of electronic music, contemporary composition and jazz.
