Saxophonist Albert Cirera and drummer Ramon Prats, known as DUOT (Catalonia), join the ZARM Ensemble, a Portuguese string quartet founded by violinist Carlos “Zíngaro”, featuring David Magalhães Alves (violin), Ulrich Mitzlaff (cello) and Álvaro Rosso (double bass).
Together, they form a sextet in which all the musicians share the same creative space: six improvisers in constant dialogue, with no hierarchies or fixed roles. Here, there is no distinction between ‘soloists’ and ‘accompaniment’ — every musical gesture is heard, transformed and responded to collectively.
Although there is a recording of this performance, DUOT with Strings (Fundacja Słuchaj 2023), the live concert is a completely improvised experience. It is not a matter of reproducing pre-existing material, but of creating music in the moment, open to risk, chance and deep listening amongst the performers.
Drawing on a shared fascination with sound, the resonance of spaces, the vibrations of wood and strings, and the interplay between density and silence, the group builds a shared language that is constantly evolving. Textures that emerge and dissolve, tensions that build and release, in a continuous flow where anything can happen.
More than just a collaboration between ensembles, this project stands as a single, living organism: six voices exploring, in real time, the limits and possibilities of improvised music.
