Em Silêncio (In Silence) is a performance that invites the audience on an immersive journey, placing them on the stage itself, close to the performers.
A journey through 48 years of dictatorship in Portugal, presented in a dynamic, auditory and visual style that is both dizzying and gripping. A narrative built from documents and testimonies of people who lived through that era; people who were imprisoned for political reasons; people who sought refuge in France; people who lived in hiding for over 40 years; people who fought for the independence of their countries in Africa; people who lived in silence and fear; people who became informants for the regime; people who turned a blind eye to what was happening.
Featuring live music and a large-scale projection, which will blur the boundaries between reality and creativity, and explore the tensions between cinema and theatre, between fiction and reality; between the performers, the audience and the people who lived through that period of our history.
All together on a theatre stage – a space for freedom of thought and creativity. Together, because there is an intimacy we wish to preserve when we speak of torture, fear, student protests, inequalities, racism, colonialism, illiteracy, the political power of patriarchy and its inherent aggression against women.
Because when we talk about human rights, we need to be close to one another so that our thoughts can resonate.
