Description

Under the pretext of commemorating the 500th anniversary of Fernão Magalhães’ circumnavigation voyage, Miguel Pereira creates a performance that reflects the legacy and consequences of this feat in our History. Starting from the meeting and collaboration with artists from some of the countries that were part of Magellan’s journey, such as Portugal, Brazil, Uruguay and Chile, an artistic research is promoted that reflects on what dance we need or need to do together, crossing the cultural and personal identity of each of the actors in an attempt to rediscuss modes of colonization and their relationship with each other. “There are certainly plenty of reflections and conclusions to be made in the political, cultural and historical context of this whole process, but, at the artistic level, it can undoubtedly provide a very fertile territory for us to question ourselves as a people, a culture and a society, where we come from, what we are and what constitutes us, and how we project the future”, writes the choreographer.
