Europa shows characters on the move, physically and emotionally, some clinging painfully to the certainties of the past, others seeking new destinations and experiences. An abandoned railway station in an unnamed border town. The trains no longer stop there and the town becomes empty and introverted. An intimate story about disenfranchisement, disconnection, love and longing, set in some small European town lost in a larger world. David Greig’s response to the civil war in the Balkans and the forces of globalisation, which is still relevant in the Europe we live in.
