In the 2025-2026 season, the HEDERA 4TET quartet challenged various artists from different fields, inviting them to “compose” works specifically for the ensemble, to be performed/co-created live by the ensemble’s musicians. By addressing works of musical composition, visual art, choreography and writing, the understanding of composition is broadened, allowing different expressions to communicate across disciplines, establishing and influencing other notions of interpretation and sound creation.
For the concert at the São Luiz Theatre, HEDERA 4TET invited author Gonçalo M. Tavares to join the quartet for an approach to writing through sound and music, exploring both within their broader contexts and practising sound as a creative element, the result of experimentation and the balance of contrasts. In this process, the work carried out will establish/develop performative methodologies for the collective, seeking the use of modern technologies for creation, sound treatment and sampling in which lines of text and acoustic sound lines, deceptively idiomatic, will be set against extensive techniques and associated combinations of remaining treatments. The result is a work of great significance, which approaches music from other forms of writing, structure and approach.
