Description

As part of the run of the show Dead as a Dodo, which opens FIMFA Lx26 from 7 to 9 May at the São Luiz Municipal Theatre, the Wakka Wakka company is holding this masterclass, aimed at professionals and anyone with an interest in the field. Not to be missed!

Come and step into a space where the soft, the fluffy and the wonderfully impossible come to life. In this masterclass, you’ll discover the magic of breathing life into the inanimate – from humanoids and animals to a wandering ghost, a shimmering blur or even a vivid colour. Through hands-on exploration, you’ll learn the basic principles of puppetry: focus, weight, breathing, rhythm and teamwork, as you manipulate characters, create simple narratives and shape miniature worlds with your own hands.

Target audience: Professionals and anyone with an interest in the subject, from all fields
Number of participants: 12
Registration deadline: 8 May 2026
Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis upon payment.

BIO
Wakka Wakka is a critically acclaimed visual theatre company based in New York and Oslo, founded by artistic directors Kirjan Waage and Gwendolyn Warnock. Its mission is to challenge the boundaries of the imagination through bold, unique and unpredictable works. Since 2001, they have created thirteen original works combining puppetry, object manipulation, masks, video art and original music, and have toured extensively across the United States and around the world. They enjoy exploring contemporary global themes through visually striking and often surrealist storytelling, seeking to expose the contradictions of human existence through biting and absurd humour. The company has collaborated with institutions such as the Royal Swedish Opera, the Oslo Philharmonic, the Riksteatret, the Arctic Philharmonic, Animando Studios and MiNensemblet. Dead as a Dodo is the company’s fifth major co-production with Nordland Visual Theatre. Wakka Wakka has been honoured with an Obie Award, a Drama Desk Award and several UNIMA Citations of Excellence. Additionally, the company has won awards in China and Croatia, and has been nominated for four Drama Desk Awards, a Helen Hayes Award and a Hewes Design Award.
