“The famous Maurice Chevalier says goodbye to the public today, leaving behind fond memories and affection, but not the hope that he will be returning to São Luiz. He wished he could return, but his life is a ‘suite’ of songs that he needs to show throughout the world”, could be read in Diário de Notícias, published on 4 May 1925 to announce the last of five performances. The French singer would become even more famous over the years that followed. He lived a life of stardom in Hollywood and worked with musicians such as Cole Porter and George Gershwin. Nonetheless, in 1952, he returned to the stage at Teatro São Luiz. His songs now return in the voice of Jérôme Fitzgerald Collet, on the hundredth anniversary since that first encounter.
