On the 120th anniversary of A Brasileira do Chiado, Mensagem de Lisboa, which considers this café its emotional headquarters, brings another live journalism session to the São Luiz stage, with many real stories on stage. This time, the stories tell of the present, the past and give clues to the future of this emblematic place in the city. Its historical and present-day characters will parade on stage and there will be stories, but also music, poetry and memories of an artistic and cultural community that has left its mark on Lisbon. Fernando Pessoa, Almada Negreiros, among others. In addition, we have the happy coincidence that the Chiado statue was also inaugurated a hundred years ago.
In this special session, we will hear from:
– Fernando Pessoa, recounted by Ricardo Belo Morais, the expert
– João Franco, the most famous employee of A Brasileira, remembered by Ferreira Fernandes and Nuno Saraiva
– Nuno Artur Silva brings two poems dedicated to A Brasileira do Chiado
– João Galvão Teles will remember his grandfather, the founder of A Brasileira, that visionary Adriano Telles who changed coffee consumption in Portugal and transformed A Brasileira into a centre of culture, modernity and world discussion
– The man who sets the clock at A Brasileira
– Musician Lucas Pina and Carla Silva, head of catering, bring Chiado’s gift to the stage in a story that features music, Michael Jordan and Africa
– The employees of A Brasileira, who serve us coffee or a pastel de nata, will also be on stage to bear witness to the long life of this café and this neighbourhood
