Description

Founded in 1985 by composers Miguel Azguime and Paula Azguime, Miso Music Portugal will celebrate four decades of uninterrupted activity dedicated to the creation, promotion, and dissemination of contemporary music in 2025.
It has been an essential pillar in the construction of the Portuguese musical landscape, promoting artistic innovation, national creation and articulation with the international scene.
Over the years, it has promoted and produced more than 220 commissions for works by national and foreign composers, including operas, artistic residencies, training courses, concerts and the Música Viva Festival, which celebrated its 31st edition in 2025, during which it hosted the ISCM World New Music Days for the first time in Portugal.

Miso Music also created Miso Studio, one of the first studios dedicated to electronic music in Portugal, which continues to be a centre of excellence in sound production and research into computer music technologies.

This anniversary is marked by a double release:
– the commemorative book entitled Sentem Sem Som Cem Sons Sempre (Feel Without Sound, A Hundred Sounds Always), which revisits Miso’s journey;
– the compilation album, Obras Incompletas (Unfinished Works), by Miguel Azguime, released by Miso Records.

The event includes a conversation with Teresa Albuquerque, Rui Vieira Nery, Paula Azguime, and Miguel Azguime, moderated by Pedro Boléo, as well as a musical performance by Camila Mandillo (soprano), João Casimiro Almeida (piano), Clara Saleiro (flute), and Pedro Carneiro (marimba), who will perform emblematic pieces by the Miso Ensemble.

Sentem Sem Som Cem Sons Sempre (Sit Without Sound, A Hundred Sounds Always) is a book that brings together texts and testimonials from various fields and people, including Paula and Miguel Azguime themselves, tracing the history and impact of Miso Music since 1985. More than a commemorative project, it is an inspiring initiative that connects the past, present and future of contemporary music creation.

For its part, the discography compilation, Obras Incompletas, is a six-volume edition by Miso Records, bringing together recordings of works by Miguel Azguime, composed between 2001 and 2024, for various formations: soloists, chamber music, voice and orchestra. The edition features the participation of conductors, ensembles and performers of great national and international renown.
