Mariana Dionísio and João Carreiro invite Joana Sá and Luís José Martins to examine the iconic text of a funeral mass in its original Latin to rethink the format of a Requiem. This performance also features the singers João Neves, Hugo Henriques and Nazaré da Silva.
The REQUIEM project is conceived in a flexible and adaptable manner, suited to the various collaborations it is designed to support; it is therefore free to pay tribute to different causes and cultures. Although rooted in the canonical pillars of the sacred musical tradition, it nevertheless allows for the spontaneity of improvised music – as it is governed by group dynamics that make each performance a new creation, inevitably distancing itself from the traditional, massive and imposing compositions characteristic of this genre.
Music crafted from an open-ended material, amenable to formal and timbral exploration, seeking a balance between fear and beauty in an evocation that pays open homage.
