Topografias Imaginárias – Do Punk ao Near Silence is a cycle of commented screenings where the encounter between cinema, music and the city of Lisbon is mapped. Each session of this cycle begins with a short film, followed by a commented conversation with people involved with the films and the musical typology in focus, and concludes with a feature film. In post-25 April and early 1980s, the emergence in Lisbon of Portuguese punk, post-punk, pop and rock is at the origin of a musical change that was simultaneously aesthetic, socio-cultural and political – and contaminated the rest of the country. Present in behaviours, attitudes and experiences, this transversal movement involved places in some of the city’s neighbourhoods, linked by music as a common impulse. This programme brings together a set of documentaries that reconstitute these historical moments and this memory, in an approach to the music and the musicians from Lisbon who made and still make it, and to the stories of those who lived and live it from the inside, since, although under different names and in permanent transformation, the movement persists.
