Transport: Departure is a documentary theatre piece that highlights the consequences of human interference with nature. It intertwines the real-life experience of the Fužir family from Prevalje, who lost their home in the 2023 floods in Slovenia, with a fictional element. A realistic audio recording of the family’s testimony confronts the audience with the direct experience of loss and the fragility of human existence.
In the pursuit of unbridled economic growth, human activity continues to alter the environment. We have encroached on riverbeds and reshaped landscapes; yet nature persistently reminds us that it operates according to its own rules, manifesting itself increasingly through storms, floods, landslides, droughts, heatwaves and wildfires that affect millions of people worldwide. The show reveals the depletion of resources and the disturbed balance of ecosystems, calling for urgent change and sustainable solutions. The statistics are bleak: since 1980, the number of floods in Europe has risen by 50%, and their intensity continues to increase due to climate change. How many warnings will we ignore before we act?
“If we’d realised our house was going to collapse, we would have saved our memories.”
-Família Fužir
Project Transport: in response to the climate emergency, Slovenian director Tin Grabnar has brought together six puppet theatres for a European project exploring the impact of transport on the contemporary world. Conceived as a six-part series—which can be viewed as a whole or individually—each performance focuses on a specific issue linked to the consequences of global traffic and globalisation.
