The São Carlos National Theatre, in partnership with the São Luiz Municipal Theatre, presents a series of concerts with commentary specially aimed at school audiences.

Throughout these concerts, students are invited to discover the secrets of the instruments, the colours of music and the stories that inspired great composers such as Schumann, Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, among others. Through different chamber music formations, performed by renowned musicians from the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra and the São Carlos National Theatre Choir, music comes to life in a close, accessible and engaging way.

The concerts are narrated by Susana Henriques, who takes students on a musical journey combining music, stories, emotions and imagination. Concert Programme

19 January – The Seasons
3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
A musical journey through the four seasons of the year, summer, autumn, winter and spring, through voice and piano. Nature, time, emotions and poetry take shape in the music of composers such as Schumann, Schubert, Fauré, Brahms, Lopes-Graça and Massenet.
A concert that invites students to listen to music as a reflection of the changes in the world and in human beings.

10 February – Fanny Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann
5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Two great names of German Romanticism, united by friendship, artistic creation and the emotional intensity of their music.
This programme also allows us to reflect on the role of women in the history of music, highlighting Fanny Mendelssohn as a composer of enormous value.

13 April – Colours in Grey
3pm–3:45pm
Music as historical testimony. Through the works of Ravel and Debussy, this concert addresses the impact of the First World War on artistic creation.
An excellent opportunity to combine music, history and citizenship, showing how art responds to major world events.

9 June – Music in the Feminine
3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
A concert entirely dedicated to female composers, featuring two great quintets for piano and strings by Elfrida Andrée and Amy Beach.
