“Anything that changes the scale of our gaze”, Fiama Hasse Pais Brandão
Vaga Luz is a speculative device that seeks to explore, through performance, formal and informal archives by poet Fiama Hasse Pais Brandão, the Grupo de Teatro Hoje and musician Jorge Peixinho, searching for possibilities of a theatrical practice envisioned by Fiama. Through a balancing act between poetry and theatre, surrealism and revolution, ecstasy and stasis, throughout the twentieth century Fiama experimented, on a marginal and wild path, a theatre of the future radiating from the senses and introspection — reflected in her writing, translation, dramaturgy, critical and theoretical notes, interpretation and direction.
Vaga Luz stems from an earlier theatrical piece based on the only work directed by Fiama, Mariana Pineda, an adaptation of Lorca’s play — reconstructed from the rescued stage version and Jorge Peixinho’s musical score. In this piece, the aim is to discover the movement of introspection that radiates outward, believing in the possibility of DIVING into someone through their work.
What future-theatre, never built by Fiama, overflowing towards the infinite that the flame does not extinguish, could this be? Speculation guides us as we summon ghosts, in a creation we wish to be hers.
Smoke and strobe light effects are used in this show.
