At last, in a national premiere, the masterpiece by American composer Samuel Barber, Vanessa (1957). Vanessa has spent the last twenty years waiting for a former lover she blindly believes will return. She holds her family hostage to this vain hope, until her former lover supposedly returns. Is he real or an impostor? Will Vanessa want to continue living in the web of her own making, or will she finally face reality? The composer of the famous adagio brings us an opera with the most inspired and vibrant music, in a libretto by Gian-Carlo Menotti, revolving around illusion and shattered dreams, the passage of time, and the refusal to face the harsh realities of life and human relationships. Performed by soprano Catarina Molder, it features stage direction by the German Daniela Kerck and musical direction by Diogo Costa.
