Description

Dance as an expression of personal emotions and feelings has been intersecting with philosophical thinking for a long time — both try to organise reality by forcing it to exit common sense in the analysis of problems and in order to promote a truly reflective place. A Dança e a Filosofia are workshops for students and teachers to discover the possibilities and points of contact between these two subjects. By invitation of Companhia Paulo Ribeiro, Leonor Barata puts forth an approach to the dancing body as a thinking body and, as such, a body that contains in itself, the major philosophical questions. To provoke amazement and the ability to question, posing challenges starting from two main premisses: everything will pass through the body, everything will involve a decision to be taken. A true gymnastic of the mind.

A Dança e a Filosofia is one of the three modules in A Dança e o Ensino Criativo (2019-2021), a project by Companhia Paulo Ribeiro, that puts forth the crossing of dance with curricular subjects (Philosophy, Literature and Mathematics), and thus promotes the proximity between science and art.
