Description

In the Antiprincesas performance cycle Cláudia Gaiolas premieres two plays dedicated to Portuguese women who left a mark on history.. Leonor, Marquea de Alorna,’s childhood was marked by the public execution of her grand-parents, the marquis of Távora, accused of a supposed attack on king D. José’s life and the imprisonment of her whole family. At 8 years old she was then sent to the São Félix Convent in Chelas where she remained until her 26th birthday. There, Leonor kept a secret correspondence with her father who tried to educate her remotely. She became a celebrated writer and a woman who never let anyone dominate her, challenging political power and the Church in her quest for justice and freedom.
