On the same night, two architects of soundscapes take to the stage of the São Luiz Theatre for a masterclass in dream music. Polish cellist Dobrawa Czocher brings to Misty Fest her self-titled debut, Dreamscapes (2023), as well as material from a forthcoming album. After graduating from two prestigious music universities – the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold (Germany) – she joined the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and was later principal cellist of the Neue Philharmonie Berlin, as well as soloist with the Szczecin Philharmonic. There she acquired a profound mastery of the classical repertoire and made a name for herself as one of the leading cellists. Together with her friend and fellow Polish pianist, Hania Rani, Czocher ventured into composition, releasing the albums Biała Flaga (2015) and Inner Symphonies (2021). The latter, published by the famous Deutsche Grammophon, has achieved worldwide recognition. The naturalness with which he crosses philharmonic music with more alternative approaches to recording and sound is what makes Dobrawa Czocher’s solo music a very serious affair.
At the festival, she will unveil the magic and meaning of states of unconsciousness. In the first part, American Julianna Barwick presents a sound full of enchanting textures that will transport the audience to a dreamlike and introspective atmosphere. Her compositions, rooted in the human voice, are profound and reflective. Using loops and overlays, he builds harmonies that give an ethereal effect that is recognisable in his artistic and creative path.
