A hilarious ballet for hoover robots and an irreverent look at the way we intertwine our lives with technology.
It was supposed to be a lovely candlelit dinner in a chic restaurant, with romantic music, where a man waits to be served… But in this strange restaurant, the service is automated and totally managed by an artificial intelligence that, unfortunately, is not up to the job.
The robot waiters behave confusingly and begin to follow random trajectories that create a hypnotic dance. As the show progresses, their behaviour becomes obscure and we can even attribute human intentions to them. In this game of balance, on the verge of falling, accidents are never far away…
The Breton company Bakélite brings us its irresistible object theatre, characterised by meticulousness and demand, where imagination meets practical inventiveness and humour.

“The result is a hilarious proposition about the limits of robotic assistance – superbly performed by Bakélite founder Olivier Rannou in the role of the man – and a timeless satire on catering at its worst, both greeted with laughter from an enthusiastic and delighted audience.”
– Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman

“(★★★★) A wordless comedy by Olivier Rannou’s French company Bakélite is much more successful: a fleet of six robot hoovers try to serve dinner to a man (…).
It’s short and sweet, with a chaotic and infectious sense of humour. And, perhaps in the midst of this chaos, there’s a clever point about our tumultuous relationship with technology. We rely on robots throughout our lives, and not just to clean the floor: will we all end up with spaghetti sauce on our knees?” – Fergus Morgan, The Stage

L’Amour du Risque is a delightful, inventive theatre of objects that keeps you on your seat.” – The Wee Review

BIO
The Bakélite company was founded in 2005 in Rennes and has become a benchmark for object theatre in France. Bakélite’s signature is the precision of the cuts and sequences, with all the rigour of a script written in plans that takes its dramaturgy from cinema and distorts its codes. All the shows are designed for a family audience, so that everyone, whatever their age, can find something to enjoy and share with others. From L’Affaire Poucet in 2005 to L’Amour du Risque in 2023, Caravane de l’Horreur has already performed around 2,400 shows in theatres and outdoors. With shows performed at the biggest puppet festivals or in cultural centres, Bakélite is everywhere. The company is currently based at Jungle, a place of residence and artistic creation in Le Rheu, of which Bakélite is a founding member.
